Setting out to hunt a coyote isn't always that easy. They easily blend in and hide with the natural topography of the area with tree grove stand and tall grasses. Most are able to be called into an area, but some you will have to stalk. The best idea is to plan all day for looking and then be ready to take a shot. The crisp morning air, the smell of autumn leaves, and the sounds of animals rustling about greet the hunter. At the rustic lodge, coffee and breakfast snacks are available to get the group going. A full, sit-down complete hot breakfast with fruit, coffee, and juice is ready for the group at 9am. After breakfast, sharpen your skills shooting sports clays or taking in the scenery of the area. The opening weekend hunting begins at 12 pm for the first seven days of the season ( it begins at 10 am for remainder of the season). Group hunting, supplied with dogs and guides, begins at 12 pm, followed by a break with a field lunch (sandwiches, chips, Cindy's famous home-made dill pickles, sweets) midway through the afternoon. Hunting concludes at dusk, but most hunts are fully limited out by 4 pm. (All groups are properly briefed on safety procedures before the hunt begins). Then, after pictures and camaraderie of the spectacular hunting day, there is free time to visit the local taxidermy shops, keep practicing sporting clays if you missed many shots that day, or relax at the lodge deck. You might do some wagering in the game room on the card table, pool table and dartboard, or relax by taking in more of the abundant scenery. Many of our groups enjoy lounging by our fire pit or sharing stories and taking in the view from our spacious deck. In the evening, as the day cools off and the sun sets, hunters will enjoy themselves with a sit-down group hot supper with always an abundance of food at 7 pm. Licenses can be purchased locally at any hardware, hunting supply store, or various businesses. Hunters must supply their own guns, ammo, goggles or protective eyewear of some sort, and orange vests and caps while hunting. Hunters will also need to bring a container to transport your birds home. Many stores in the area give free orange caps at the time of purchase of hunting licenses. A pheasant license is suitable for ten days ( 2) 5-day hunts and can only possess 15 birds after the fifth day, the rate is $154 for ten days. (Prices vary by year). The daily limit is shooting three roosters per day. This license does include hunting varmints such as coyote, red and gray fox, skunk, prairie dogs, ground squirrels.
